Every year our school, Sekolah Lentera Indonesia, holds an art competition. In this annual event, students participate in art activities such as drawing and painting. Their works are then displayed all around the school and becomes available for purchase. The proceeds will then be donated to a foundation. The theme for this year was 'Art is Love' and grade school students were tasked to paint a subject about a “Big City’ to show their appreciation for a city that they love. Not surprisingly, many students painted their home town of Jakarta with the Monas featured prominently. This shows how the Monas is an integral part of the students’ imagination of a city.
